README

Version 2 Deciduous Trees.

Click the EDIT menu and select WORD WRAP.

Here are 12 Deciduous tree macros for use in FS Scenery design.
They are provided in API & SCASM, but have not been tested in
SCASM.

!!!! VERY IMPORTANT !!!!
For previous users of DecTrees, please read and follow the installation instructions below very carefully.

First of all I want to thank Mr. Dai Griffiths for providing the excellent tree textures for use in creating these macros. He changed all the texture R8's to bitmap format, ready to use in the EOD & FS2002 programs for me. I believe these tree textures are the best to be found in scenery design. Without these there would have been nowhere to start with these macros.

These macros are freeware, many hours have been spent by Dai Griffiths creating the original textures, Bill Dick gave freely of his time to edit the winter textures and provide the snow covered trees, and I myself spent many hours trying to perfect the deciduous tree macros to be "AS REAL AS IT GETS" in Flight Simulator. All that we ask in return for the use of them, is that you give Dai Griffiths, Bill Dick, and me Robert Palmer equal credit in your scenery readme's.

Version 2 improvements are. The trees will be completely dark at night. New extended 16 bit textures without mip maps, trees will remain steady, and not change as you approach them from a distance. Complete new winter snow textures edited by Bill Dick.

A special thanks to Dave Malloch who beta tested these tree macros for us.

***INSTALLATION***

For new users, place the tree api's into your Airport User Api folder. You may place the textures into your FS2002 texture folder, or only into your sceneries texture folder, they will work either place. Although the complete macro archive has limited distribution, you have our permission to distribute the textures freely with your scenery. In fact you must place the textures of the trees you use in your scenery texture folder for upload to the websites to avoid missing textures.

"IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREVIOUS USERS OF DECTREES"

There is no danger of mixing the new api's with the original Dectree api's as the new api's have the pretext V2 in the api names.

However the textures carry the same names as the old ones. In order to make use of the new extended 16 bit textures and the new winter snow textures do this. If you have placed the older textures into your FS2002 texture folder, copy and paste the new textures into this folder, and when it says, there is already a texture of the same name in this folder, do you want to replace it with this one, click yes to override and replace the old texture with the new one. If you don't do this the new api's will just call up the old texture, and you won't get the advantage of the new extended 16 bit textures and the new winter snow textures.

If you have not placed the older textures into the Fs2002 texture folder, all you need to do is place the new textures of the trees you use in your new sceneries texture folder, and as mentioned above you must place the new textures in your scenery folder if you are going to upload to the websites to avoid missing textures. You have our permission to freely distribute the textures in this manner.

Last of all this should not effect your older sceneries you have created using the older versions of Dectrees.

HINT---- An easy way to tell if you have one of the new textures or an old one is the size of the texture file. The old texture file size is 65kb, and the newer extended texture size is 128kb.

I have tried with the best of my ability to avoid confusion with the older Dectree files with the above instructions. If you have problems please read and follow the instructions carefully. However if you still have problems, feel free to email me at the addresses below, and I will do my best to help you resolve the problem.

Now try them out in your scenery design program, and you should be well pleased with the results.

***********RESOURCE FOLDER INSTRUCTIONS**********

The BMP files in the resource folder are not for use as scenery textures. They are to be placed into the resource folder of Airport 2.60. Then when you select one of of the tree API's a picture of the tree selected will appear in the display of the object window.

These macros have been tested only in FS2002, I know of no reason they would not work in FS2000.

The SCASM files are provided, but have not been tested.

We enjoyed making these macros, and hope you have good luck in using them in your sceneries. I have long wished for some simple single tree macros in the four seasons with some really nice textures, and these textures have been graciously provided by Mr. Dai Griffiths, Dai spent many hours in creating these textures, and I believe they are the best available for FS Scenery design, Hope you can make good use of them.

If you have problems with these macros , you are welcome to E.mail me, and I will do the best I can to help out.
